The Bailly lexicon describes the Greek verb of the word to intransitively (without an object) convey the idea of staying behind, of standing there, of having the power of resistance, of perseverance.
Transitively (affecting an object), the verb indicates the power to withstand the blows of the swords, the resistance without flinching or without being affected, resignation, perseverance, patience, audacity (boldness).
Luke 8:15 speaks of the ones who hear the word and hold to it and bear fruit with patience (resistance, perseverance, resignation, no flinch). In other words, we keep the word of God no matter what.
The Greek word is associated with hope in 1 Thessalonians 1:3, with long-sufferings in Colossians 1:11, with persecutions in 2 Thessalonians 1:4, with perfection, maturity, completion, lacking of nothing in James 1:3-4
In Romans 5:3, Paul states that we enjoy tribulations because they bring about endurance, patience, perseverance, resignation, steadfastness.
It is also spoken of the endurance of Jesus Christ (2 Thessalonians 3:5).
